![]() Today, I'm going to talk a little bit about my mini meditations and what I hope people will get from them. With all my minis, I talk about intruding thoughts and emotions. I initially called these negative thoughts and emotions, but decided to change that. I felt like calling them negatives was indicating that we can never feel or think about negative things. And this is not a message that I want people to get. We all are going to experience the negatives and that is fine in moderation. They can help to make us stronger, help us learn to survive, or to help us learn something. Without the negatives, we can't enjoy and appreciate the positives as much as we do. So, I call the thoughts and emotions that you may not want to be having at a moment, intruding. With how I introduce my minis, the intruding thoughts and emotions are causing people to not be able to concentrate on what they are doing. People end up focusing on the intruders causing them to not focus on work, school, events, and anything else that may require their attention. When this happens, we may not get the chance to do an hour long meditation, sometimes not even a ten minute one. But the point of the minis is to give people something that they can do in a few minutes to help them refocus. With my meditations, I also like to try and elicit other emotions besides the usual. It's cool to want to feel calm, happy, and relaxed. But what about excited, playful, and nostalgic? There are many different emotions that are positive that can be felt while doing a meditation. Some of mine are meant to elicit certain emotions and some will elicit emotions that I may not have intended. My main goal is for people to feel some sort of positive emotion instead of an intruding one. Lastly, I do write my meditations with enough detail to give people something to imagine. After that initial detail, I hope and encourage people to add their own details to the mediation. That is why you see in the description boxes and the blog a section called Some Imaginative Elements. These are some questions that can help you to add more detail to the meditation to focus on and to make that meditation unique to yourself. So this was a little insight into my mini meditations.
